Asian Games 2026 Highlights: Quimcy Dsouza into Teqball semis; women’s cricket team advance to semis

The Indian women's cricket team and men's soft tennis team opened their 2026 Asian Games campaign on Friday, a day before the opening ceremony.
Harmanpreet Kaur and co were up against hosts Japan in the quarter-final, and the team delivered a commanding win to put them up against Bangladesh in the semi-finals.
In soft tennis, the Indian men's team comprising Jay Meena, Om Yadav, Aniket Patel, Aryan Thakur, and Yogesh Chaudhary were knocked out in the quarterfinals, losing to Indonesia.
Besides, Teqball action continued with Quimcy D'Souza entering the women's singles semi-final, and D'Souza-Anas Beg moving to the mixed doubles bronze medal match.

Soft Tennis, Men's Team Group C: India 0-3 Chinese Taipei
The reigning silver medalist, the Chinese Taipei men's team, clean-swept India in the second group tie with a 5-1 win in the second doubles match.
India's Om Yadav and Aniket Patel lost 0-4, 4-2, 1-4, 1-4, 2-4, 2-4 to Chen Po Yi and Chen Yu Hsun, ending the tie with a 0-3 defeat. Earlier in the tie, India had lost the first doubles 0-5 and the only singles match 1-4.
The team will next face Mongolia in their final group tie at 9:30 AM, and a win will book their spot in the quarterfinals.

Soft Tennis, Men's Team Group C: India 0-2 Chinese Taipei! Lost the tie
Aryan Thakur lost the singles match 1-4 (1-4, 3-5, 3-5, 4-2, 1-4) to Chang Yu Sung, giving an unassailable lead to Chinese Taipei in the tie and confirming India's first defeat of the tournament.
Aryan had his moments in a couple of games, as two of the five games were decided on extra points, and he even snatched one game from Sung, but couldn't find the much-needed win.
Despite the defeat, India will still play the second doubles match between Om Yadav /Aniket Patel and Chen Po Yi/Chen Yu Hsun, as every match counts for group standings.

Soft Tennis, Men's team Group C: India 0-1 Chinese Taipei
Indian pair Jay Meena and Yogesh Choudhary lost in straight games to the experienced pair of Yu Kai-wen and Lin Wei-chieh in the first doubles.
The Indian pair couldn't offer much against the reigning medalists in the first four games, losing 2-4, 1-4, 2-4, 1-4. In the fifth game, they had a 3-1 lead but again failed to convert and lost 3-5.
The tie's fate now lies with Aryan Thakur in singles, who will be up against Chang Yu Sung next.

Teqball, Women's Singles Group Stage: Quimcy Dsouza registers second consecutive win to reach semis
Quimcy Dsouza made it two out of two wins from the group stage with straight-sets (12-9, 12-7) win over Cambodia's Kemyean Dy to top Group A and qualify for the semi-finals.
As Quimcy topped the group, she will get a direct entry to the semi-finals, and she will have a bye in the quarterfinals.
She had earlier defeated the top-seeded Japanese player and will now hope to confirm a medal with a semi-final win on Saturday.
Teqball is making its debut at the Asian Games this year, which means she has a chance to become the first Indian to win a Teqball medal at this quadrennial event.

Teqball, Women's Singles Group Stage: Quimcy Dsouza upsets top seed
A phenomenal start for India in teqball as Quimcy Dsouza beat the host nation’s Yuina Sakamoto in the women’s singles Group A match.
Quimcy lost the first set 10-12 but quickly recovered to take the next two sets and the match to upset the top-seeded player and open her campaign on a high.
She will play Cambodia's Koemyean Dy next.

Soft Tennis, Men's team Group C: India beat Laos 3-0
India’s men’s soft tennis team made a winning start to their Asian Games campaign, defeating Laos 3-0 in the Men’s Team Group C match at the Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre.
The men’s doubles pair of Jay Meena and Yogesh Choudhary won the opening doubles match 5-0, followed by a one-sided 4-0 win for Aryan Thakur in singles.
In the third match of the tie, Aniket Patel and Om Yadav wasted no time in beating Senthanongvath Pasomsouk and Viengthong Phienvihane 5-0 in the second doubles.
India will now face Chinese Taipei (7:30 AM) and Mongolia (9:30 AM) in other Group C round-robin matches.

Soft Tennis, Men's team Group C: India leads 2-0 against Laos
India's Aryan Thakur needed only 13 minutes to wrap up the second match of the men's team tie against Bekki Vongphakdy in men's singles
Next up, Aniket Patel and Om Yadav vs Senthanongvath Pasomsouk and Viengthong Phienvihane. The tie is played as a best-of-three matches with two doubles matches and one singles match.
