Indian Olympic Association had recently submitted a 524-member strong contingent for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games. However, IOA has now made several changes and dropped the entire Triathlon team from the roster for the Asian Games.
The Indian Olympic Association had previously courted controversy as well when they stopped the Indian Football Teams, both men and women, from taking part in the upcoming Asian Games. Once again, IOA has taken a decision that may not be widely accepted at first. However, this time the reason given by India's Olympic Association for dropping the entire Triathlon team was due to being provided with misleading information.
The IOA cut as many as six athletes after a long meeting on Saturday, stating various reasons for this decision.
There were some other rejections and inclusions as well.
Athletes from sports climbing were also looked at in the meeting. These athletes were previously overlooked for the original roster. Eight athletes were later being considered for this sport, however, five were rejected. The participation of the remaining three athletes depends on the acceptance of there entries by the organizers of the 2018 Asian Games.
However, after the meeting, a three-member equestrian show jumping team was cleared for participation at the Games. Also Read: Equestrian team scrapped ahead of Asian Games
Even after submitting the list, there have been a lot of changes made by the Indian Olympic Association. One can expect that this will go on for a while now, where athletes will be added and removed from the list. However, in the end, India will still be sending a pretty strong contingent to Jakarta, with the hope that they do better than the last time around. https://twitter.com/TheBridge_IN/status/1015630214246944768
