Preview

An unbeaten NorthEast United face off against Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) tomorrow night. Gerard Nus’ side have been very good so far as the surprise package of the league. They’ll be looking forward to making it three wins in seven against the Men of Steel who have drawn their last two games and are in need of a victory.

The Highlanders haven’t lost against Jamshedpur while playing at home in their last three games. They have won two and drawn once at home this season compared to their visitors who have drawn all of their three away games till now. Owen Coyle’s side have seen three cards this season which is the highest in the league. Aitor Monroy was the most recent casualty of the same against Mumbai City FC. The head to head stats favour them though, having won once in the last five while the other four were draws.

Squad Overview

NorthEast United will be quietly confident coming into this game. They have been extremely stable in defence with their back four standing tall against the stiffest of challenges so far. Khassa Camara has been an absolute revelation in midfield. Further forward, Luis Machado, Kwesi Appiah and Idrissa Sylla have all chipped in with important performances that have seen them maintain their unbeaten tag. However, their real star has been the 19-year-old Ninthoi Meetei.

He has been brilliant in both aspects of the game and his maturity on the ball belies his age. They also have Provat Lakra, Fanai Lalrempuia, Britto PM and Rochharzela who are in and around the starting eleven. All of them seem to fit into the puzzle perfectly when called upon which has been the side’s biggest strength till now.

Owen Coyle will be without Aitor Monroy but will have Laldinliana Renthlei back after he saw two yellows against SC East Bengal. Amarjit Singh Kiyam or Jitendra Singh might replace the Spaniard. They are also without striker David Grande, which has meant that the goalscoring load has fallen entirely on Nerijus Valskis till now. His body language in games where things don’t go in favour of his side has raised a few questions. However, the Lithuanian will once again be in charge of firing them in front after scoring six goals in as many games.

The Red Miners will also be missing Joyner Lorenco and Narender Gehlot due to injury. They do have a settled back four though. And Alex Lima and Jackichand Singh are the two other senior players whom Owen Coyle can count on. They also have Issac Vanmalsawma, Aniket Jadhav, Sandip Mandi and Billu Teli to make an impact from the bench.
