ISL 2020-21: Deshorn Brown joins NorthEast United, to be replaced by Xisco Hernandez
Jamaican striker Deshorn Brown has joined NorthEast United from Bengaluru FC. The forward has had an underwhelming spell with the Blues since signing for them in January 2020 and the club has confirmed today that his contract has been mutually terminated. Spaniard Xisco Hernandez will be taking his place for the remainder of the season, marking his return to a side with whom he won the 2018-19 Indian Super League (ISL) title.

30-year-old Brown has failed to find the net this season and has just one assist in 10 games till now. Overall, he has three goals and an assist against his name since signing for the Blues, a record which fans and the club management wouldn’t have been happy with. With the departure of Carles Cuadrat, this seems like the start of a rebuilding process that has seen Naushad Moosa step up as head coach. 31-year-old Hernandez had also been linked with a move back to the club and that has since come to fruition.
Brown will be looking to regain his goalscoring form with the Highlanders in the absence of Kwesi Appiah who is set to be out for the season with an injury. Newly appointed interim head coach Khalid Jamil will be hoping that the Jamaican, who has played for the likes of DC United and Colorado Rapids before, can link up well with Idrissa Sylla and Luis Machado and help his side collect points.

On the other hand, Hernandez will hope to help out his former employers in a season of turmoil. Kristian Opseth and Sunil Chhetri both seem to have lost their goalscoring touch at the moment and Naushad Moosa will be expecting the former Elche and Mallorca attacker to hit the ground running. In his previous spell, he made 21 appearances for Bengaluru scoring once and assisting five. He had then moved to Odisha FC and scored a further five goals for the Kalinga Warriors along with two assists in a disappointing 2019-20 campaign.
