In a major boost to the sport in the Indian sub-continent, Sony Network has secured the broadcast rights of major archery events around the globe. As per the reports, World Archery and Sony Pictures Networks Private Limited have signed an exclusive deal to broadcast the events in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Maldives. India has a busy schedule ahead in Archery and Indian viewers will now have the opportunity to catch them live on their Television screens from now. As learnt by World Archery, Sony Network will be responsible for covering the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup season and the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships, which is the primary qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. India will begin their campaign from the second stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China, later this month. Indian archers are expected to perform well in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the World Cup will be a perfect rehearsal before the mega event. Indian Archery is on the rise, especially due to players like Deepika Kumari, Abhishek Verma who made the nation proud in several competitions in recent years.
“Ever since Deepika Kumari’s victory at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Indian archers have come within a few arrow’s widths of claiming titles at the sport’s biggest events,”
said World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener. Sony Network has previously broadcasted many multi-sport events in the past including the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, this will be a new thing they are going to offer to their audience. “Our goal has always been to showcase the best of International sporting events and Sony Pictures Networks is strongly focused in expanding its international sports portfolio as well as growing its sports offerings,” said the chief revenue officer, head of the distribution of sports of Sony Pictures Networks India.
