A day after becoming country’s first greco-roman wrestler to advance to the final of the men’s 55kg category, Vishvajit More settled for a silver at the U23 World Championships in Las Vegas, USA on Thursday.

More lost to Georgia’s Koba Karumidze in a tightly fought contest 12-13.

This is More's third consecutive U23 World Championship medal, having won bronze in 2025 and 2024 editions.

He defeated Russia’s Malik Gigiev 7-4 in the semifinals and overcame U20 world champion Armin Shamsipour of Iran in a one-sided quarterfinal 8-1.

More's silver is India's first medal of the tournament.

India has fielded a total of 21 wrestlers, including 10 men's freestyle, 6 women's freestyle, and 5 Greco-Roman for the tournament. Later in the day, women wrestlers including Sweety (53kg), Komal (59kg), Mansi Lather (68kg), Amruta Shashikant Pujari (72kg) and Diksha Malik (76kg) will be seen in action.

Meanwhile, India will go unrepresented in four women weight categories after Parveen (50kg), Ahilya Shatrughn Shinde (55kg), Neha Sharma (57kg) and Neha Sangwan (65kg) struggled to get their visa, eventually missing out on the tournament.
