Commonwealth Games gold medallist Rahul Aware prevailed over USA's Tyler Lee Graff to bag a bronze medal in a closely-contested final of the World Wrestling Championships

Both the players were tied on 2-2 in the initial stages of the bout when Aware crushed the American challenge with a lead of two points. Aware maintained an unassailable 4-2 lead before wrestling Tyler off the mat in the final minute with as many as eleven points.

Tyler looked to forge a powerful comeback into the game, but Aware showed great resilience to cut down his lead to 11-4 in the game and seal a thumping victory.

The diminutive Maharashtrian wrestler was in control of the bout, which ended with superlative leg lace moves, with Aware finally winning by technical superiority.

Aware, contesting in the non-Olympic 61kg category, lost to Georgia’s Beka Lomtadze in a tense semi-final bout yesterday. Earlier yesterday, he showed more craft than his rough opponent Rassul Kaliyev of Kazakhstan in a roller-coaster quarter-final, to sail into the semi-finals.
