Indian women's U19 team registered a dominating victory against Bangladesh in their first match of the Super Six stage at the U19 T20 World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday.
Chasing a mere total of 65, Indian batters took only 7.1 overs to claim this massive victory by 8 wickets. With this win, the Defending champions have now also booked their semi-final spot.
Here are the major talking points from the match:
#5 A dominating bowling display
Indian bowlers had a pretty outstanding tournament as they haven't conceded any triple-digit marks. They showed the same in the first Super Six match against Bangladesh, bundling them for just 64.
This was the highest total which Indian team has conceded in this tournament, showcasing their dominating display in the bowling department.
However, Bangladesh denied the Indian team an all-out because of a slow but fighting partnership for the 6th wicket between Jannatul Maoua and captain Sumaiya Akter, who remained not out at 21 of 29.
#4 Vaishnavi Sharma- the star bowler
The hattrick hero Vaishnavi Sharma made her debut at the tournament but she once again showcased her quality, picking up 3 wickets for just 15 runs in her four overs.
She was the best bowler for India in the match and hence adjudged with the 'Player of the Match' award for her excellent spell.
She is now in the joint top position at the leading wicket-taker tally at this tournament, having nine wickets in just 3 matches.
#3 Gongadi Trisha shines with the bat
The star Indian opener Gongadi Trisha is one of the most impressive batters for India in this tournament as she is now in the top position of the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 120 runs in 4 matches.
She played a brilliant innings of 40 runs for 31 balls in this match against Bangladesh to make it far easier for the Indian team to chase this total of 65 runs.
However, she missed her half-century in the second consecutive match and will be aiming to achieve that feat in the coming matches.
#2 Confirmed a Semi-final Spot
Indian team, who is also the defending champion, has now confirmed their spot for the semifinal with 6 points and currently sitting in the second position of their Super Six group B.
The team is also on an unbeaten run and will be aiming to continue that and defend their title of the U19 World Champions.
#1 What's Next
India's final Super Six match will be against Scotland on 28th January. As the team has already booked their spot in the spot, they might try their bench strength before heading out for the important knockout matches.
