The Indian dugout sprung to its feet when Gongadi Trisha dabbed the ball to point and ran for the single.

Amidst the loud cheers from the Indian camp and the spectators at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Gongadi Trisha scripted history.

She became the first-ever woman to score a century in the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, scoring an unbeaten 110 from just 59 balls against Scotland in the Super Six fixture.

Her innings were filled with elegant strokeplay and displays of brute force, with the young star scoring 13 boundaries and four sixes in her mammoth knock.

Thanks to her knock, India reached a total of 208 in 20 overs against Scotland.

Who is Gongadi Trisha?

Trisha, based out of Hyderabad, started her cricket career at the age of seven, and her talent was spotted in her formative years.

She became part of the Hyderabad and South Zone teams at the age group levels, she was taken into the Hyderbad senior team following her impressive performances.

She made her Hyderabad debut in the 2017/18 season in the Senior Women's T20 League.

Following that, she also got picked for the India B team, and the national team calling was just around the corner for Trisha.

A triumphant inaugural U19 T20 World Cup

In 2023, Gongadi Trisha was named in the India U19 women's squad for the inaugural edition of the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, held in South Africa.

India ended up winning the tournament under the captaincy of Shafali Verma, and it was Trisha who top-scored in the final.

After bowling England U19 women for just 68, Trisha scored 24 runs off 29 balls and guided India U19 women to a famous victory.

Being one of only three players from the 2023 edition, Trisha is using her experience and has been one of the key batters in the Indian lineup.

With India already through to the final four, more will be expected from Trisha's bat as the team eyes a back-to-back triumph in the U19 T20 World Cup.
