ICC announces schedule for Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 in Malaysia
India will begin its title defense at the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup with the opening fixture against West Indies.
Defending champions India will kickstart their campaign at the second edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup against the West Indies on January 19, 2025, in Malaysia.
The tournament is set to take place from January 18 to February 2, 2025, marking Malaysia's debut as a host nation for an ICC event as the co-host Thailand withdrew.
India has been placed in Group A alongside the host Malaysia, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.
The Indian team will be eager to defend their title, having won the inaugural edition of the tournament in South Africa last year, after a seven-wicket victory over England in the final.
The 2025 edition of the tournament will see 16 teams competing, divided into four groups of four teams each.
Super Six stage and knockouts
Each team will play three matches in the group stage, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the Super Six stage.
In the Super Six, the top three teams from Groups A and D will form one group, while the top three from Groups B and C will form the other.
Teams will carry forward their points and net run rates from the group stage. The top two teams from each of the two Super Six groups will qualify for the semifinals.
If India qualifies for the semis, they will take part in semi-final 2 scheduled for January 31, having one reserve day for the semi-finals.
The final of the tournament will take place in Bayuemas Oval on February 2.
Warm-up matches and debutants
In preparation for the main event, 16 warm-up fixtures will take place from January 13 to 16.
This tournament will also witness debut appearances for the host Malaysia and Island nation Samoa in an ICC World Cup event, adding an exciting new dimension to the competition.
The 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup promises to be a thrilling tournament, with 41 matches scheduled across four venues in Malaysia.
As the defending champions, India will aim to replicate their previous success and secure back-to-back titles in this prestigious event.
