17-year-old powerlifter dies in training mishap

The teenager was reportedly attempting to lift 270kg.

In a tragic incident in Bikaner, Rajasthan on Wednesday, a 17-year-old powerlifter died in the midst of a training routine.

As per reports, the mishap occurred when the powerlifter, who has been identified as Yashtika Acharya, was attempting to lift 270kg.

The video, which is being widely circulated on social media, shows Acharya being led to the bar by a trainer.

She begins clasping the bar and takes a step back to begin her routine. However, her left leg gives way and with the seemingly heavy weights overpowering her, the bar collapses on the back of Acharya's neck.

The trainer, standing behind the teenager, is unable to arrest the fall of the bar and onlookers watch in horror and Acharya’s neck bears the full burden of the weight.

The entire mishap pans out in a matter of seconds and the teenager collapses to the floor.

The 17-year-old Yashtika Acharya was reportedly a Junior National Games gold medalist.

As per reports, the family has not pressed charges over the incident and after the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
