National Weightlifting C'ships: Jagdish, Harmanpreet set new national records

Harmanpreet Kaur in the women's 76 Kg and V Jagdish in the men's 102 Kg broke two national records to win gold medals.

Harmanpreet Kaur (Women's 76 Kg) and V Jagdish (Men's 102 Kg) sets two new national records at the National Weightlifting Championships.

The records are kept on tumbling at the National Weightlifting Championships in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh as four new national records were set by Indian weightlifters in the last two days.

Harmanpreet Kaur in the women's 76 Kg and V Jagdish in the men's 102 Kg broke two national records each to clinch the gold medals from the championships.

Harmanpreet Kaur broke the national records in the clean-and-jerk category with the best lift of 127 Kg and her overall total of 223 Kg is also a new national record in this category.

However, she missed out on the national record in the snatch category as her best lift in snatch was 96 Kg and the national record in snatch is listed to the name of Punam Yadav (99 Kg).

Harmanpreet also bettered her last year's silver medal performance at the same event by a massive margin of 20 Kg to clinch the National Championship title.

Back-to-back national titles for V Jagdish

On the other hand, the 30-year-old Jagdish Vishwakarma of services broke the national records in the snatch and overall total events of men's 102 Kg weight class.

His 157 Kg lift in the snatch category is the new national record, which he bettered by a good 4 Kg from the previous record of 153 Kg by Kojum Taba.

However, he missed out on the Clean and Jerk national record (202 Kg) but his best lift of 196 kg took his overall weight to 353 Kg, which is a new national record with an improvement of 2 Kg.

This is the second consecutive national title for Jagdish who is the reigning champion of 96 Kg from the 2023 edition but this time participating in 102 Kg, he added another title to his name.
