Indian teenage weightlifter Maibam Martina Devi broke the senior national record in clean and jerk in the women's +87kg weight category in a stunning performance at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships.

The 18-year-old from Manipur bettered her junior national record in snatch.

Despite the superlative performance, Martina failed to finish on the podium in all three sections.

Devi lifted 101kg in snatch to finish sixth in the seven-woman field and bettered her own earlier junior national record of 95kg set in July last year in Greater Noida by 6kg.

Martina missed the snatch senior national record of 105kg, which is held by Mehak Sharma, by 4kg.

Then she went on to lift 136kg in the clean and jerk which was an improvement of 1kg from the earlier senior national record of 135kg which was in the name of Mehak Sharma of Punjab.

Martina's earlier personal best -- also a junior national record -- in clean and jerk is 123kg. That meant she lifted 13kg more than her previous best in clean and jerk.

Martina lifted a total of 237kg which is 3kg less than the senior national record of 240kg held by Mehak Sharma of Punjab. Mehak created the record at the National Senior Championships earlier this year held in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
