ITTF Mixed Team World Cup: India falls to China, suffers second defeat in a row
After losing their opening game to the USA, India has now suffered its second defeat, losing 8-0 to hosts China.
Team India suffered a crushing 8-0 defeat to China in the second game of the ongoing ITTF Mixed Team World Cup, on Monday in Chengdu, China.
Facing the defending champions, the Indians could not win a single game, as China wrapped up the contest with just three matches, in less than an hour.
With yesterday's opening game defeat to the USA, India's qualification to the next round is now in jeopardy.
Other results must go in their favor, with India winning all its remaining matches.
China was the heavy favorite coming up against an inexperienced and young Indian side, and nowhere did the defending champions slip up.
The opening mixed doubles match featured Lin and Kuai Man from China and Pritha Varthikar and Jeet Chandra, and the Chinese got off to a brisk start, taking the first game 11-8.
India did put up some resistance in the first game, but the second and third were a completely different story as they were blown away, with the Chinese winning 11-2 and 11-2.
The women's singles match was up next, featuring Yashaswini Ghorpade and Wang Yidi and once again, it was a 3-0 victory for the Chinese, winning 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.
The Tie was wrapped up, with China's Wang Chuqin, the men's world no.1 ranked paddler, cruising to a 2-0 win (11-5, 11-9) over India's Snehit Suravajjula.
With two defeats in two matches, India is in a spot of bother and will be looking to pull themselves back up in their next game.
