India's Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched the silver medal in men's 50m rifle 3 positions at the ongoing 2025 ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.

Tomar shot a total of 466.9 to lose out the gold medal by a mere 0.2 points to China's Liu Yukun.

The Indian had a 0.1 point lead going into the 45th and last shot of the final, but a 9.8 meant that he had to settle for the second spot on the podium.

"I was thinking I want to be world champion, world champion, world champion. No other thoughts," said Tomar with a wry smile when prodded about what he was thinking before the final shot.

He was placed sixth after the kneeling series in the final and climbed up to second spot with a sensational series in prone, emerging as best shooter in that position.

From then on it was a two-way battle with Liu for the gold medal for Tomar.

Earlier, Tomar had shot a total of 597 to top the qualification round and qualify for the final.

The 24-year-old Tomar, a two-time Olympian, was on the money right from the start. He shot a perfect 200 in the kneeling as well as prone position for a score of 400.

With a world record in sight, Tomar faltered a little but shot 98 and 99 in the two standing series respectively to equal the world record.

The other Indian in contention in the event, Niraj Kumar also qualified for the final. He shot a total of 592 to take the fifth place and finished in the same spot in the final.

Esha-Samrat win silver

Later in the day, the recently crowned men's world champion Samrat Rana and Esha Singh bagged the silver medal in mixed 10m air pistol team event.

Rana and Singh went down to China 10-16 in the gold medal match.

It was a neck and neck battle for the gold medal with the Indians having the upper hand early on. But once China equalised at 9-9, the young Rana and Singh crumbled under pressure.

Rana and Singh had won the mixed 10m air pistol gold medal at the 2022 ISSF Junior World Championships in Cairo three years ago, but China ensured that no such heroics are repeated.
