Two persons were injured after a portion of the false ceiling in the wrestling hall at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS) here collapsed during an Independence Day function on Saturday.

Officials said the incident occurred while the Independence Day programme was underway and persons, including players, were seated in the front rows of the hall.

The false ceiling suddenly gave way and fell, following causing a commotion at the venue, officials said.

The two injured persons were subsequently taken to a hospital, they said.

Videos from the venue showed the people present in the hall running around as chaos broke out during the celebrations.

Sumit Miglani, the Director of NIS Patiala, confirmed the incident.

"A few persons sustained minor injuries and were provided immediate first aid and necessary medical attention," Miglani said as per Times of India.

"No one sustained any major injury and all concerned persons are safe and stable," he added.
