Gukesh, Harmanpreet, Manu Bhaker, Praveen win Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, and Dronacharya award for the year of 2024.
World Chess champion D Gukesh, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh, Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker, and Paralympic champion Praveen Kumar will be conferred the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award this year, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on Tuesday.
The awardees will receive their honours from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17th January 2025 (Friday).
Besides the four abovementioned athletes, 32 will be honoured with the Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in 2024.
The list of Arjuna Awardees includes the likes of Jyothi Yarraji (Athletics), Salima Tete (Hockey), Navdeep Singh (Para-Athletics), Nitesh Kumar (Para-Badminton), Annu Rani (Athletics), Jarmanpreet Singh (Hockey), and many more.
Sucha Singh and Muralikant Petkar will be honoured with the Arjuna Award (Lifetime) for their achievements throughout their career.
Shooting coach Deepali Deshpande, Hockey coach Sandeep Sangwan, and Para-Shooting coach Subhash Rana will receive the Dronacharya Award.
