Days after Home Minister Amit Shah spoke in length about India's ambition to host the 2036 Olympics at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Games in Uttarakhand, Nita Ambani has also voiced strong support for the cause.
Ambani, the chairperson of Reliance Foundation, was speaking at Harvard University's annual India Conference on Indian Business, Policy and Culture.
"I believe that India must have the Olympics," she said. "We are going to be the third-largest economy in the world.
If you look at the ten largest economies, nine have hosted the Olympics – only India has not. So, I find that really odd," she added.
The 60-year-old Ambani also stressed on the need of sustainability in India's country's Olympic vision, stating the need to refurbish and reuse existing stadiums to host an eco-friendly event.
“If we bid for it and get it, I assure you that we'll be the greenest Olympics ever,” she said.
India had submitted a formal bid to the International Olympic Committee, expressing their desire to host the 2036 Olympics Games in October last year.
Multiple Indian politicians, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi have since reiterated on bringing the Games to India for the first time in various public forums.
