Kerala’s first-ever 'School Olympics' to dazzle with 3-kg gold trophy
The new School Olympics is set to become a landmark event in Kerala's education system, promoting the value of sports alongside academics and arts.
The Kerala Education Department is gearing up for a historic event—the inaugural "School Olympics."
Modeled after the School Arts Festival, this massive sports meet will take place in Kochi from November 4-11, bringing together students from across the state to compete in 39 different sports, including athletics, team games, and inclusive sports for differently-abled athletes.
The event, a first of its kind in India, will award the winning district an ever-rolling 3-kilogram gold trophy, named in honor of the Chief Minister.
If logistical challenges prevent the gold trophy from being introduced this year, it will be presented next year, according to sources.
The opening ceremony at Kaloor Stadium promises to be a grand spectacle, complete with cultural performances inspired by the Olympics.
Competitions will be held at 19 different venues across Kochi, and for the first time, students from Kerala schools in the Gulf will also take part in the games.
The revamped event represents a major upgrade from the state’s traditional school sports meets, which have primarily focused on athletics.
This time, the Public Education Department has gone all out, planning a torch relay with international athletes, a grand march-past, a theme song, and a sports-cultural fest.
