Mountaineering: Kaamya Karthikeyan becomes the youngest woman to scale world's seven highest peaks

Kaamya achieved the feat by conquering the Vinson Massif, the highest mountain peak in Antartica.

India's Kaamya Karthikeyan became the youngest woman ever to scale the world's seven highest peak earlier this week.

Kaamya, 17, achieved the feat when she successfully reached the summit of Vinson Massif – the highest mountain peak in Antarctica – on the Christmas day at 1:50 am IST.

"It has been a truly merry holiday season," Kaamya wrote in an Instagram post.

"With this climb, I’ve become the youngest female mountaineer in the world to complete the Seven Summits Challenge by climbing the highest peak in all continents," she added.


Kaamya, a student of the Navy Children School in Mumbai, has conquered Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt Elbrus in Europe, Mt Kosciuszko in Australia, Mt Aconcagua in South America, Mt Denali in North Amercia, Mt Everest in Asia, before ending her feat at Mt Vinson Massif.

Kaamya is a Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardee from 2021 and was just 16-year-old when she scaled the Everest earlier this year.

Kaamya had also starred at the 2024 Khelo India Winter Games, winning a gold medal.

As per a report in the Deccan Herald, she now hopes to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam, which includes reaching the North Pole and the South Pole along with the climbing the seven summits.
