Update: 2018-01-25 10:02 GMT
Thomas Bach, head of the International Olympic Committee has confirmed that "serious indications" of doping in their careers have resulted in Russian athletes being banned from the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. This clarification comes after three elite athletes including Speed skater Viktor An, cross-country skier Sergei Ustyugov and biathlete Anton Shipulin does not feature in IOC's pool of Russian athletes who have been cleared to participate at the upcoming winter games, representing Olympic Athletes from Russia. Only athletes without the slightest doubts have been cleared to fly to the Winter Games. The IOC head Bach said, "many different sources" of results were kept in mind to finally arrive at the list of athletes who have been barred from the ban, which includes any available DNA analysis and the biological passports of individual athletes; on top of previous drug tests. The IOC has felt aggrieved by the state-sponsored doping scandal that continues to bring disrepute to the IOC and its games. They have fined the Russian Olympic Committee $15 million which will be invested to drug test international athletes other than banning.
