First-ever win at Asian Winter Games
India hasn't had a very positive start to the campaign as it faced a disappointing defeat (0-30) against Hong Kong in the opening match of the group stage.
But since then, it has made good progress in the game and scored its first-ever goal in the next match against a strong Turkmenistan team. Stanzin Angchok was India's first-ever goal-scorer at the Games.
Indian team continued this momentum in the final group match against Macau and claimed its first-ever victory. India started the match in a dominating fashion and took a massive 3-0 lead.
However, Macau pulled back two goals on the quick counter-attacking moves to close the deficit to just one at the end of the second quarter.
In the final quarter, India showcased better composure in defence and added one more goal to its name thanks to a goal from Tsering Angdus, resulting in a historic 4-2 win against Macau.
India showcased a full-aggressive play in the match and had 42 shots on the goal in comparison to 23 by Macau and both teams scored one goal each in the powerplay.
Despite the win, the Indian team is no longer in contention for the medal; it will still compete for the placement matches in the coming days.
