Odisha Warriors beat Soorma Hockey Club 2-1 to win the inaugural Women's Hockey India League at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday evening.
With this win, coach Janneke Schopman took revenge for her defeat to Jude Menezes, the coach of Soorma Hockey Club, in the Olympic qualifiers in Ranchi last year. Janneke was the coach of the Indian women's team then. And Menezes was the coach of Japan's women's team.
Rutuja Pisal scored a brace for the Odisha Warriors, while Penny Squibb scored the solitary goal for the Soorma Hockey Club.
