The Indian men's U20 football team is competing at Indonesia's invitational tournament, the Mandiri U20 Challenge Series, at the Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo.
The young Indian team took on Syria at the tournament opener on Friday at 2:30 PM IST
Alongside India and Syria, there are two more teams in the tournament, i.e. Jordan and the hosts Indonesia.
As it happened:
Syria starts the second half with the same aggressive attitude, scoring two quick goals but then India finds their first after a brilliant run on the left flank from Bharath Lairenjam who assists a minus ball to an in-running Manbhakupar Malngiang.
After this, India tried to go in with more attacking intent and came close to scoring a couple of goals but was well saved by the Syrian goalkeeper.
Despite a good attacking spell of 15 minutes, the Indian team had a tough start to the campaign facing a massive defeat against Syria.

Syria dominated the first half, scoring four brilliant goals which included an injury-time goal on the counter-attack, using their quick runs on both the flanks, leaving the Indian defense with no answers.
India tried to go forward and build attacks but a lot of missed passes or misdirected shots made it a bit more tougher for the side, who now has a big deficit to cover in the second half.
