ISL: Punjab FC writes to AIFF seeking review of referee's decisions
Punjab FC has written a strong letter to the Chief Refereeing Officer, Trevor Kettle to review the referee's decisions during the side's match against Northeast United.
Punjab FC wrote a strong letter to the Chief Refereeing Officer of AIFF, Trevor Kettle to review the referees' key decisions that impacted the match against NorthEast United and will also impact the club's next match against Mumbai City in New Delhi.
The off-side circumstances leading to the goal for NorthEast, and the decisions that led to the sending off of Head Coach Panagiotis Dilmperis are the main topics that Punjab FC has asked the AIFF to review.
The yellow card given to Nikhil Prabhu, which led to his suspension for the next match, and the first yellow card given to Khaimingthang Lhungdim because of dissent was also mentioned in the letter.
"Punjab FC remains committed to fair play but is deeply concerned about recurring instances of questionable decisions during matches, which undermine the significant investments made by clubs." Punjab FC mentioned in their statement.
"The implementation of VAR is essential to ensure transparency and consistency in officiating, as similar concerns have been raised by multiple clubs," the statement added.
There were numerous such occasions in the last few weeks where the referees were under a lot of pressure because of a few controversial calls including the last night's penalty appeal at the Kolkata Derby.
"Punjab FC urged the AIFF and ISL to address these issues promptly and take collective action to safeguard the interests of all clubs and uphold fair play in the league", the statement added.
