The Indian Super League clubs Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC announced a swap deal for Pritam Kotal and Bikash Yumnam on Saturday.

While the 31-year-old Kotal will now ply his trade for the Marina Machans in a two-and-a-half-year deal, the young Yumnam will join the Blasters in a long term deal.

"The 21-year-old centre-back has committed to a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2029," the Kerala Blasters said in a statement.

Kotal, who has more than 50 international appearances to his name has been a important part of the Indian Super League since his inception. He started his youth career with Chirag United before establishing himself in the I-League.

Kotal has previously captained Mohun Bagan Super Giant. He has also clinched the Indian Super League titles in 2016 and 2019-20 seasons.

"Very happy to be here and be a part of the Chennaiyin FC family," said Kotal after joining the team. "The coach explained he really wanted me in his team, so when I got the offer, I had no doubts about joining.

"This is a very good team that plays well. My goal from hereon would be to try and win every match and go to the playoffs. Coach Coyle has been here for a few years, he knows the league, the Indian players. The players, too, know and respect him. I want to give everything on the pitch and I am very happy to play under him," he added.

Kotal has already started training with Chennaiyin FC and is slated to make his debut for the team in the coming days.

Yumnam, meanwhile, began his professional career with the Indian Arrows in I-League just under five years back. He then played for RoundGlass Punjab FC before joining the Chennaiyin FC in January 2023.  He has also been a consistent feature in India's age-group teams over the years.

“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter with Kerala Blasters FC," said Yumnam.  "The club has a rich history of backing and providing opportunities to young talents and I am eager to contribute to the team’s success and grow as a player during my time here.”
