ISL 2020-21: Is Bright Enobakhare’s goal against FC Goa the best in the ISL ever?

Update: 2021-01-07 11:07 GMT

10-man SC East Bengal were somewhat held to a draw by FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Wednesday despite Bright Enobakhare’s stunning opener. This was the newly signed Nigerian’s second goal in as many matches and one would doubt if he has scored a better one than this ever before. The touches, the control and the balance with which he executed the mazy run before the finish was a sight to behold. So much so, that it has created a huge debate on social media; about whether it is the best individual goal in the ISL ever.

And there’s merit to the question. Although the ISL, over the years has seen some incredible goals, most of them have involved long-range shooting, great passing moves or both of the above. Rarely has an attacking player cut through the opposition defence like a hot knife on butter and that too with effortless elegance. The only other goal in recent history that comes to mind is Hugo Boumous’ strike against Hyderabad FC in February last year. But even that pales in comparison.

What was most impressive about this goal was that Enobakhare’s second touch, which was a difficult one to be honest, wasn’t great. Even then, he managed to scamper past the first defender, lull the second into a tackle and use a couple of shoulder drops to go past the next two. It’s almost funny how he made the finish at the end look so simple in a position where three players were bearing down on him.

More of this please….
