Commonwealth Games 2026: Murali Sreeshankar wins men's long jump silver

India's Murali Sreeshankar bagged the silver medal in men's long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a best effort of 8.09m on Wednesday.

Sreeshankar finished behind Jamaica's Tajay Gayle, who took the gold medal at 8.15m. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie took bronze at 8.08m.

It marked the Kerala lad's second consecutive medal at the Games, having won the silver medal in Birmingham with an 8.08m effort four years ago.

Sreeshankar started the final with a good 8.03m jump in the first attempt before improving it his eventual silver medal winning 8.09m with his second.

The Indian briefly held the lead and was pushed down after Gayle recorded 8.15m with his fourth attempt.

Sreeshankar's third and fourth attempt registered no marks, while he rounded off the successful campaign with a 7.94m and 7.97m jumps respectively.

Earlier, Sreeshankar had qualified for the men's long jump final by breaching the direct qualification mark on his very first attempt.

Lokesh Sathyanathan, the other Indian in action in the event, finished fifth with a best of 7.97m.

Lokesh was consistent throughout the final, registering a valid mark on all his six attempts. He, however, couldn't convert it to a medal, struggling in the final phase of the run up just before the take-off.
