India’s wait for its first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games continues after Ashok missed out on a podium despite a personal best, finishing fourth in the men’s lightweight para powerlifting event.

In the women’s para powerlifting, Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi finished 6th and 7th respectively in the lightweight category, while Kasthuri Rajamani failed to register a valid lift in the heavyweight final.

On a positive note, the duo of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh continued their strong run, securing their second consecutive win in the women’s pairs group stage in Bowls.

The boxing competition also got underway, with Jadumani Singh cruising to a comfortable 5-0 victory over home favourite Aaron Cullen to advance to the round of 16.

Action in bowls, boxing, artistic gymnastics, and swimming will continue on Saturday, with only three medal events scheduled, two in swimming and one in gymnastics.
