CWG 2026 Day 3: Sachin Siwach progresses, Rupa-Pinki stay unbeaten

India continued its Glasgow Commonwealth Games campaign on Saturday with mixed results across lawn bowls, boxing, swimming and wheelchair basketball.

In lawn bowls, India's women's pairs duo of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh, who defeated Malta in a tie-break on the opening day, returned to action against Tonga.

After a slow start, the Indians edged past Tonga in another tie-break to register their third consecutive sectional win. India took the opening set 5-2 before Tonga bounced back to claim the second set 6-0, forcing the tie-break, where the Indian pair held their nerve.

At the boxing arena, Sachin Siwach booked his place in the men's 55kg Round of 16 with a 4-1 split-decision win over Keoma Al Ahmadieh in the Round of 32.

Siwach handled his opponent's aggression well and maintained his composure throughout the contest, landing a series of clean punches to secure the victory.

Meanwhile, Aryan Nehra and Dhakshan Shashikumar missed out on qualification for the men's 400m freestyle final.

Dhakshan finished 15th overall after clocking 3:58.09, while Aryan placed 16th with a time of 4:00.26.

India's debut at 3x3 wheelchair basketball

India's women made their Commonwealth Games debut in 3x3 wheelchair basketball but endured a difficult outing, going down 16-1 against Wales.

The Welsh side dominated throughout, restricting India to a solitary point. The Indian team will now look to bounce back in its remaining pool-stage matches.

In the men's singles lawn bowls competition, Putul Sonowal suffered his first defeat of the Games after winning his opening two matches.

The Indian went down in straight sets to Malaysia's Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple, losing 8-4, 9-8 in their Section D encounter.

Later in the day, the Indian artistic gymnastics team of Eshitaa Rewale, Nishika Agarwal, Pranati Nayak and Protistha Samanta began its campaign in Subdivision 3 of the women's team final.

India made an impressive start on the vault, posting a combined score of 36.650 to lead all six teams that had completed the apparatus at that stage. Protistha Samanta led the way with 12.950, followed by Pranati Nayak (11.950) and Eshitaa Rewale (11.750). Nishika Agarwal scored 11.450 after a landing deduction, with her score dropped as the team's lowest.

India will next compete on the uneven bars in Rotation 2.
