Harjinder Kaur and Gulveer Singh stole the spotlight for India at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning a silver medal each in the women's 69kg weightlifting and men's 10,000m, respectively, with record-breaking performances on Tuesday.

Gulveer clocked 27:49.98s to clinch the silver in what is India's first-ever medal in men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, Harjinder lifted 227kg (101kg snatch + 126kg clean and jerk) to finish second behind Canada's C. Simoneau, whose 240kg effort bagged the gold.

The Indian was flawless throughout the competition, completing all six of her attempts to rewrite the national records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total. Australia's N.P. Hayman claimed bronze with 218kg.

Three more boxing medals were assured

India's boxers continued to impress, with Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas and Jadumani Singh all progressing to the semi-finals of their respective weight categories to guarantee themselves at least bronze medals.

Preeti dominated Northern Ireland's Nicole Clyde in the women's 54kg quarter-final, securing a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Priya recovered after losing the opening round to defeat Scotland's Niamh Mitchell by split decision in the women's 60kg category, while Jadumani overcame Zambia's Mwengo Mwale by unanimous decision in the men's 55kg quarter-final.

It was, however, a disappointing evening for Parveen Hooda, who bowed out of the women's 65kg event after suffering a narrow 2-3 split-decision defeat to England's Sacha Hickey in the quarter-finals.

Kapil Pokhariya also bowed out, losing to Scotland's McNulty 5-0 via a unanimous decision in men's 90kg boxing.

Elsewhere, Srihari Nataraj finished sixth in his semi-final and 12th overall, failing to make it past the men's 100m backstroke final. He clocked 55.52s.

Earlier in the day, he had clocked 55.58s in the heats to make it to the semi-final.

Vishal TK, India's national record holder in the men's 400m, also advanced to the semi-finals with a 46.49-second run.

Rajesh Ramesh, meanwhile, narrowly missed qualification after finishing 17th overall, just one place outside the semi-final cut.

In para swimming, both R.V.V.B.K. Budigina and Ali Imam qualified for the men's 50m freestyle S13 final after progressing from their respective heats. They finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Veteran swimmer Sajan Prakash, however, exited the men's 50m butterfly after finishing 28th overall in the heats.

Weightlifting brought mixed fortunes for India. Nirupama Devi recovered from an opening snatch failure to register 93kg but could not record a valid lift in the clean and jerk after missing all three attempts at 123kg, ending her campaign without a medal despite entering the discipline as one of the favourites for bronze.

In bowls, India's men's pairs team of Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar recovered from losing the opening set to defeat the Cook Islands in a tense tie-break, while Nayanmoni Saikia conceded a defeat in her first match in women's singles.

The athletics session was also disrupted by heavy rain during the women's high jump final, where teenage national record holder Pooja Singh finished eighth with a best effort of 1.77m.
