The world watched in awe as India emerged as the new powerhouse.

2024 turned out to be a historic year for Indian chess without an iota of doubt. 

Arjun Erigaisi, D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa entered the top echelons of the global chess rankings.

At the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest, the Indian Men's and Women's teams conquered the world to bring the title home, marking it the first time that India had won both titles in the same Olympiad.

And then, when winter arrived in Asia, so did ice man Gukesh, clinching the World Chess Championship at just 18 years of age.

The year was one when Indian chess soared and the world took notice.
