Chess: P Iniyan wins Johor International Open
P Iniyan won eight out of his nine matches at the Johor International Open.
Indian chess grandmaster Iniyan Paneerselvam clinched the 2025 Johor International Open tournament in Malaysia.
The 22-year-old Iniyan was unstoppable in the tournament, winning eight out of his nine matches to finish with 8.5 points out of a possible nine.
The only match the top seeded Indian failed to win was his third round battle against Indonesia's FM Satria Cahaya, where he played out a draw with the black pieces.
Iniyan beat GM Van Huy Nguyen with the black pieces in the final round to bag the title.
The Tamil Nadu GM enjoyed a whopping 1.5 points lead over the second placed IM Rahul VS of India, who scored seven points in Malaysia. China's IM Li Bo finished third with same points to complete the podium.
Iniyan had defeated Li and Rahul in the fourth and fifth round respectively, en route his title win.
This is Iniyan's second title win of the season after having won the Chennai Open International Grandmasters earlier this month.
