With this win, Sindhu equals the record of five-medal haul by a woman at the World Championships as she ensures a medal. China's Zhang Ning presently holds this record. This is Sindhu's third consecutive entry into the semi-finals of the tournament.

Despite losing out in the first game Sindhu proved her mettle showing nerves, giving a neck-to-neck fight in the second game and eventually winning it.

In the third game, the Indian came from behind trailing 4-8 and patiently maintained her composure to match the dominating opponent. A close competition ensued from after Sindhu levelled 14-14. The close encounter entailed to 19-19, with the Indian winning the next two points.
