At just 20, Priya Ghanghas has emerged as a force to reckon with in the Indian domestic circuit, dominating the women's 57kg category.
Having risen through the ranks in Bhiwani, the boxing factory of India, Priya is no stranger to the hard work that takes to reach the top and the success which follows.
Early life
Priya's boxing journey began at the age of 11 in the year 2015 when her father, Mahendra Ghanghas, took her to former national champion Ravi Sangwan, who also trained Manu Bhaker before she switched to shooting.
Training alongside her older brother Neeraj, Priya kept progressing.
In 2022, her family shifted to Bhiwani in an attempt to secure Priya's admission to the Boxing Academy at the Sports Authority of India Centre.
Several Olympians had trained in that academy, including Vijender Singh. Under coach Mahavir, her growth was rapid.
Boxing Progress and Wins
Within a year of joining the academy, Priya won gold at the 6th Youth Women's National Boxing Championship 2023 in Bhopal in the 57kg category and was named Best Boxer of the tournament.
Her senior breakthrough followed at the 8th Elite Women's National Boxing Championship 2025 in Noida, where she reached the final of the 57kg category before falling to Jaismine Lamboria.
Later that year, she stepped onto her first continental stage at the Asian U-22 Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok, where she won silver before losing to China's Yu Tian.
Her major event was the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where she defeated world champion Chengyu Yang of China 4-1 in the quarterfinals and later defeated Mongolia's Namuun Monkhor 5-0 in the semifinal.
She then defeated North Korea's Won Un-gyong 3-0 in the final to claim gold and has also confirmed her place for India's team for the Asian & Commonwealth Games.
