Thailand Open 2026: PV Sindhu, Lakshya storm in quarters

Satwik-Chirag advance to quarters too; Kidambi, Sihag exit in round of 16.

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had comfortable outings to storm into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open Super500 Tournament on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Sindhu got the better of Denmark’s Amalie Schulz 21-13, 21-15 in 28 minutes while Lakshya beat China's Zhu Xuan Chen 21-12, 21-13 in 39 minutes.

Meanwhile, top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated their Malaysian opponents Goonting Bryan Jeremy and  Haikal Muhammad 21-12, 21-19 to book a place in the last eight.


Satwik-Chirag will be eyeing their third Thailand Open title, having previously won in 2019 and 2024. The World Tour Finals 2025 bronze medal-winning pair set up a quarterfinal clash against Japanese sixth seeds Takumi Nomura and Yuichi Shimogami.

Former world no. 1 Kidambi Srikanth lost to Chinese Taipei’s Su Li-yang and Devika Sihag also exited the tournament.

Malvika Bansod will also be in action later in the day against Chen Yufei.

On Friday, Sindhu will take on World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, where the Indian holds a 15-12 head-to-head advantage. Lakshya will next face second seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarterfinals, with the Thai shuttler holding a 7-4 head-to-head advantage over the Indian.
