The BWF Thailand Masters Super 300 got underway today with the qualifying rounds played amid a lot of fanfare.

Several Indian shuttlers were in action in the qualifying round, and it was a day of mixed results for the competing Indian contingent.

Among the players who qualified for the main draw is Tara Shah, who defeated Kim Joo Eun of South Korea in straight sets (21-16, 21-18) in the women's singles category.

In the main draw of men's doubles, Indian duo Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek came from a game down to clinch victory.

The Indian pair beat Singapore's Keat Wesley Koh and Junsuke Kubo 2-1 (16-21, 21-13, 21-13) and have advanced to the round of 16.

Viplav Kuvale and Viraj Kuvale, who got a walkover in the qualifying rounds, lost in the round of 32 against Indonesia's Muhammad Fikri and Daniel Martin (10-21, 13-21).

India's sole pair in women's doubles, Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi lost their opening-round match against Malaysia's Xin Yee Ong and Carmen Ting (17-21, 14-21).

Kidambi leads Indian contingent in main draw

Former world no.1 Kidambi Srikanth is back in action for the Thailand Masters and will lead the Indian contingent in the main draw.

The current world no.45 is up against Israel's Daniil Dubovenko in the opening round.

It has been a dry run for the 31-year-old in the BWF World Tour, with bad form and injuries running rampant in recent times.

Since the Swiss Open last year, Srikanth has not been able to cross the quarterfinal stage and he will look at the Thailand Masters as a good opportunity to get back to form.

Apart from Srikanth, Ayush Shetty, Tharun Mannepalli, Sankar Subramanian, Sathish Karunakaran, Meiraba Maisnam, Rithvik Sanjeevi, and Mithun Manjunath are set to compete in the men's singles.

In the women’s singles, world No. 58 Tanya Hemanth will take on Malaysia’s Selvaduray Kisona in the opening round.

Similarly, Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde will represent India as the only entry in the mixed doubles category.
