Ashmita Chaliha clinches her maiden BWF World Tour title at Korea Masters 2026

Ashmita Chaliha clinched the women's singles title at the Korea Masters Super 300 Event to win her maiden title on the BWF World Tour Circuit on Sunday.

The 26-year-old came from behind to defeat the fourth-seeded Chinese shuttler Han Qian Xi, 14-21, 21-14, 21-14, in the 53-minute-long match.

Ashmita, who had a career-threatening knee injury in 2024, is slowly coming back to her best, having two quarterfinal appearances, one semi-final and now a title in her last five world tour events.

Chaliha had a good start to the match, gaining a 9-5 lead in the opening game, but she lost control after the mid-game, and Han took the game 21-14.

She had a much better second game and this time didn't let her lead slip, closing out the game 21-14, keeping her maiden title hopes alive by forcing a decider.

In a close deciding game, Han had a slight 11-9 lead at the final mid-game break but then Ashmita won six straight points and eventually won the game 21-14.

Indian women's singles is having one of its best years, having already won four titles this year with different players - Devika Sihag, Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita and PV Sindhu.

Overall, this is India's fifth title of the year on the circuit, as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had also won a Super750 title in Singapore.
