Guwahati Masters: Priyanshu, Tanvi, Anmol, Ayush move to pre-quarters

Top-seed Priyanshu Rajawat moved to pre-quarterfinals of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 with a win against Arya Bhivpathik.

Top-seeded Priyanshu Rajawat fought a tough battle while young Tanvi Sharma got the better of her namesake Tanya Hemanth in the first round of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton tournament on Wednesday.

Priyanshu was made to sweat by Arya Bhivpathik and fought back from 11-16 and then saved a game point in the opening game to beat Bhivpathki 22-20, 21-14 in 35 minutes, while Tanvi defeated Tanya 21-18, 21-14 to advance.

In the mixed doubles event, top seed Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Adya Variyath defeated Nithin HV and Anagha Pai 21-14, 21-10 while fifth seed Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto dispatched Chinese pair Liao Pin Yi and Huang Ke Xin 22-20, 21-19. 

Both Indian pairs can come up against each other in the quarter-finals.

In women's singles, youngsters Shriyanshi Valishetty defeated compatriot Unnati Hooda 21-19, 21-14 to register an impressive win while eight seed Isharani Baruah came up short against Anmol Kharb losing 10-21, 21-18, 18-21.

Among other results, Tasnim Mir defeated Ira Sharma 21-13, 19-21, 24-22 and will face defending champion Lalinrat Chaiwan of Thailand in the next round.

S Sankar Muthuswamy and Ayush Shetty also progressed to the pre-quarterfinals in men's singles.

Sankar breezed past countryman Abhyansh Singh 21-10, 21-8 while Ayush defeated experienced Mithun Manjunath 21-11, 21-11.
