Animesh, Gurindervir breach men's 100m national record, personal best for Ancy Sojan in women's long jump.
National Senior Athletics Federation Competition: Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh lit up the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi with a record-breaking performance in the men’s 100m heats on the opening day of the Federation Cup.
Gurindervir first clocked 10.17s to better Animesh’s previous national record of 10.18s. Moments later, Animesh responded with an even faster 10.15s, reclaiming the record and also achieving the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark of 10.16s in the process. The final tomorrow at 7:10 PM promises to be a thrilling contest.
In the women’s long jump, Ancy Sojan had a new personal best effort of 6.75m in her fourth attempt. She narrowly missed the national record of 6.83m and the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 6.84m.
Day 2 action begins with men's 10000m Race Walk at 6AM.

The results are out! Ancy Sojan breaks the meet record and registers her personal best of 6.75m. She, however, remained shy of the CWG qualifying standard.
Athletes to watch out for in this event are Krishna Jayashankar, Seema, Nikita Kumari.
The Commonwealth Games 2026 qualification mark stands at 56.85m and NR of 66.59m was set by Kamalpreet Kaur in 2021.
Gold: Ashish Jakhar 68.52m (3rd attempt)
Silver: Damneet Singh 67.62m (6th attempt)
Bronze: Ajay Kumar 64.93m (3rd attempt)
Sadly, neither Damneet nor Ashish got close to the CWG qualifying standard of 73.09m. The national record of 70.73m was set by Neeraj Kumar in 2016.
Ancy jumps 6.75m in her fourth attempt. She will have to better Anju Bobby George's national record of 6.83m to qualify for the CWG. The CWG QT stands at 6.84m.
