The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) provisionally suspended India's long- and middle-distance running coach Mohd. Yunus Khan.
Working with the Army Sports Institute in Pune, Khan was suspended for complicity or attempted complicity under Article 2.9, according to the NADA's provisionally suspended list.
This charge is not about a failed test. It concerns a coach’s alleged role in an anti-doping violation, and the case will now go through NADA’s hearing process.
Khan has trained several Army athletes, with long-distance runner and Commonwealth and Asian Games medalist Gulveer Singh and marathon record holder and Asian Games silver medalist Sawan Barwal among the most prominent names.
According to the National Anti-Doping Rules, Article 2.9 stands for assisting, encouraging, aiding, abetting, conspiring, covering up or any other type of intentional complicity or attempted complicity involving an anti-doping rule violation, attempted anti-doping rule violation or violation of Article 10.14.1 by another Person.
The offense carries a period of ineligibility ranging from 2 years to a lifetime ban based on the severity.
Earlier this year, Athletics coach Rakesh Kumar was penalised with a lifetime ban in August under Article 2.8 for the administration or attempted administration of prohibited substances to athletes.
