2019 Asian Table Tennis Championships: Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Sharath Kamal power India to quarters

The Indian men's team produced a stunning display on Day two of the Asian Table Tennis Championships being held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and qualified for Championship Division. On the other hand, the women's team lost to Thailand in the semifinal of 1st division and failed to qualify for the Championship division.

Sathiyan powers India to last 8

India's top-ranked paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won both his matches in the first rubber against Saudi Arabia to lead his team to a 3-1 victory. Achanta Sharath Kamal also won his match but Harmeet Desai failed to impress.

Then, in the semifinal of 1st division, India faced their toughest test so far in the shape of Thailand. However, this time, Sathiyan, Sharath and Harmeet, all won their respective matches to give India an incredible 3-0 win.

By virtue of this win, India have now qualified for the Championship Division where they will face Japan. Interestingly, in the previous edition in 2017, India had crashed out in the first round of the Championship Division after losing to Japan.

Manika Batra and co. to fight for 9-10th positions

The women's team started the day off on a positive note as they swept aside Uzbekistan 3-0. However, in their semifinal against Thailand, they suffered a 0-3 defeat. The lose thwarted all their hopes of making it to the Championship Division.

Manika Batra and co. will now fight for the 9-10th position against Malaysia later today.
