Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav clinched silver in their respective categories at the Nimes Archery Tournament, the fourth stage of the 2024-25 Indoor World Series, held in Nimes, France.

Competing in the Compound Women category, Jyothi Surekha narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing with a total of 146 points, just one point behind Colombia’s Alejandra Usquiano, who clinched gold with 147 points.

Meanwhile, in the Compound Men category, Rishabh Yadav displayed remarkable consistency, scoring a perfect 148, but fell short against Austria’s Nico Wiener, who edged ahead with a total of 149 points.

Road to final

Seeded sixth, Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated Croatia’s Amanda in a nail-biting match, 147-146, securing her spot in the gold medal match.

The 27-year-old, already a two-time champion this season, aimed for a hat-trick against Colombia’s Alejandra Usquiano in the final.

The Nimes event, part of the prestigious IWS 1000 series, earned Jyothi valuable points, solidifying her lead in the world indoor tour rankings.

Meanwhile, Rishabh knocked out top seed Abhishek Verma in the quarterfinals with a perfect score of 150, securing a spot in his first final of the season.

However, the tournament saw disappointing exits for India’s top recurve archers. Abhishek Verma, despite finishing as the top seed in the ranking round, fell short in the elimination rounds. Verma, who had a perfect score of 599/600 in the rankings, was defeated by Yadav in the quarters.

In the men’s recurve category, Atanu Das also failed to advance past the quarterfinals, losing in a tight shoot-off to Italy’s Matteo Borsani.
