MP Jabir qualified for Tokyo Olympics in 400m hurdles

Indian Navy's ace athlete MP Jabir qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 400m hurdles on Thursday.

He will be the first Indian male athlete to participate in the 400m hurdles at Tokyo Olympics.

Jabir qualified through the World ranking quota where there are 14 spots available.

He recently won gold at Inter-State Athletics Championships in Patiala where he clocked 49.78s.

The 25-year-old Naval sailor is currently ranked 34th in the World Athletics.

Jabir will be the second athlete from Kerala to compete in the 400m hurdles at Olympics after the legendary PT Usha.

Despite Covid restrictions, Jabir was able to prepare for the Olympics with regular practice and support from the Naval Training team.
