In yet another disappointing day for the Indians at Individual Wrestling World Cup being held at Belgrade, the Asian Champion Pinki shone bright before losing to Iryna Kurachikna of Belarus in the the semifinals of the 55kg category.

Pinki started the day in a fine fashion as she cruised to a 3-1 win over the Ukrainain Tetyana Kit. The Indian however ran into a red hot Iryana in the semifinal and fell to an embarassing 6-1 defeat against the 2019 World Wrestling Championships bronze medallist.

However all is not lost for Pinki because she would be back in action tomorrow for Brozne medal match of the 55kg category against Russia's Olga Khoroshavtseva.

As has been the story in the past couple of days, the other three Indian wrestlers in fray were far from their best and bowed out of the tournament early on Monday evening.

While India's biggest hope, Sonam Malik, managed to win her 62kg qualification round in an convincing manner (7-0) against the Hungarian Anna Hella Szel, the youngster's inexperience was evidently displayed as she gift wrapped Ilona Prokopevniuk of Ukraine a victory by fall in her quarterfinal bout.

The other two wrestlers, Nirmala and Gursharan Preet Kaur too suffered similar fate and were knocked out early in the tournament.

While, Nirmala lost 9-6 to Poland's Anna Lukasiak in a her 50kg qualification match, the 36 year old Gursharan went down to Buse Tosun of Turkey 11-12 in a closely fought bout.

Gursharan in fact led the bout 11-3 until the final two minutes, but Tosun had some other ideas as she made a stunning comeback to send the Indian packing back home in their 72kg qualification match.
