Just a day after boxer Sumit Sangwan was banned for failing a dope test, weightlifter Seema has been slapped with a four-year suspension for a doping violation.

The Commonwealth Championship silver medalist's samples were collected by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) this year during the 34th Women National Weightlifting Championship that was held in Vizag, where traces of a banned performance-enhancing drug was found. Seema competes in the 75kg weight category.

"The analysis report of her sample returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for presence of a Prohibited Substance namely 3. Hydroxy 4 methoxy Temoxifen (Metabolite of Tamoxifen), Selective Estrogen Receptor Modular (SERM) Metenolone, Anabolic Steroid Ostarine (Enobosram), Selective Androgen Receptor Modular (SARM), which is a non-specified substance as per WADA Prohibited List of 2019."

It further added, "Ms. Seema will undergo the four-year ban, considering that she was found positive for the prohibited Substance of Tamoxifen including two other non specified substances namely Ostarine (SARM) and Metenolone, Anabolic steroids."

Seema was a silver medal winner in the 2017 Commonwealth Championships and finished sixth while competing in the 75kg weight category at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games that was held last year.

Earlier in the day, NADA had tweeted that India, which was earlier in the top three nations with the most number of doped sports stars, has improved its record of reducing the incidence of drugs with six more countries committing more anti-doping violations in the recent past. The results were published by the 2017 Anti Doping Rule Violation Report released by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA).

This year, a number of players like Prithvi Shaw (cricketer), Nirmala Sheoran (sprinter), Satnam Singh (basketball), Neeraj Phogat (women's boxer), Delhi half-marathon winner Jyoti Singh, weightlifter Ravi Kumar Katulu have all been suspended for failing their respective dope tests.
