At the FIH Hockey World League Final last year, India and Belgium were stuck in a 6-goal thriller draw which had to be decided courtesy a penalty shoot-off in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
India scored through Gurjant Singh, Harmanpreet Singh (PC) and Rupinder Pal Singh (PC), while the Belgians scored via Loick Luypaert (2 goals) and Amaury Keusters.
The win was important because prior to this, India had had an inconsistent run in the tournament thus far but getting their act together to beat a higher ranked Belgium definitely made up for it.
India were through to the semifinals of the Hockey World League Final with a 3-2 shootout victory over Belgium. The scores were tied 3-3 at regulation time.
Today, India faces Bhubaneshwar again in the Hockey World Cup in a group stage match. Confidence will naturally be high among the squad given their amazing victory vs South Africa in their first game. Will we see another thriller?
