The COVID-19 pandemic has started to pose serious questions on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

Canada has already pulled out of the games and Australia asking its athletes to prepare for Tokyo 2021 games. Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has conceded for the first time that timely hosting of the Tokyo games now seems unlikely.

Amid these doubts and question the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on 23 March said it will "wait and watch" for at least a month before taking any call on the country's Olympic participation.

"We will wait and watch for 4 to 5 weeks and then come to any decision after consultation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the sports ministry," IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta has said.

"The situation is not that bad in our country as compared to other nations," he further added.

The IOA confirmed that they know that that Canada has denied to send athletes if Olympics are not postponed, they have not taken any decision on the same.

With Canada pulling out of the Summer games and Australia too doubtful about the same it is only a matter of when and not if that the Olympics could be postponed.
