India's tennis legend Leander Paes was conferred with the Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Award Doctorate 2020 on Sunday. The 47-year-old Paes took to Twitter to share his photograph of receiving the honour.

The ceremony was organised by Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Academy at the Marriott in Goa.

Paes quoted Nelson Mandela and wrote:

"Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does." - Nelson Mandela. Honoured to be conferred the Nelson Mandela Nobel Peace Award Doctorate 2020.

Leander Paes is eyeing a comeback at 2021 year's French Open as he bids to make a record eighth appearance at the Olympics. Paes had earlier said he skipped the Australian Open as he is apprehensive of playing in a bio-bubble but is looking ahead to the French Open.

The Olympic bronze medallist in singles and multiple-time doubles Grand Slam winner has represented India in each of the last seven Olympics since 1992. Paes holds the record for the most number of Olympics appearances by any tennis player in history. He last played at an ITF event in Zagreb, Croatia, in March before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the tennis calender.
