India's challenge at the ongoing Australian Open ended today with Rohan Bopanna conceding a defeat in the Quarterfinals. Rohan along with his partner, Ukraine's Nadiia Kichenok lost against the pair of fifth seed Barbora Krejčíková, Nikola Mektic 6-0, 6-2 in the mixed doubles event.

The Indo-Ukrainian pair never got going and the inconsistency cost them. They just could not match up with the Croatian-Czech pair on the net or from the baseline. Both Bopanna and Kichenok suffered on their own serves and were unable to play past the aggressive, net play of Mektic.

Sania Mirza withdrew from the mixed doubles draw at the last moment due to a calf problem, leaving Bopanna no other option but to pair up with a new partner, Kichenok.

Earlier on Sunday, the pair beat USA’s Nicole Melichar and Brazil’s Bruno Soares 6-4, 7-6 to reach the quarters.

Bopanna earlier got knocked out in the first round of men’s doubles of the Australian Open, losing to American twins and former World No. 1s Bob and Mike Bryan.
